How Does Prolotherapy Work?

Prolotherapy involves injecting a small amount of a stimulating solution—usually a dextrose (sugar) solution—into the affected area. This gentle solution activates the body’s natural healing response by triggering controlled inflammation that helps:

  • Increase blood flow

  • Recruit healing cells to the area

  • Stimulate the growth of new collagen and connective tissue

As a result, the targeted tissues become stronger and more stable over time, helping to reduce pain and improve function.

Conditions Commonly Treated with Prolotherapy
  • Joint instability (knees, shoulders, hips, etc.)

  • Chronic low back pain

  • Tendonitis or tendinosis

  • Ligament injuries

  • Degenerative joint conditions (like osteoarthritis)

  • Whiplash and neck pain

  • Plantar fasciitis

What to Expect
  • Minimally invasive: Performed in-office with a small needle

  • Quick sessions: Usually takes 15–30 minutes

  • Little downtime: Most people resume normal activities shortly after

  • Series of treatments: Often spaced 3–6 weeks apart for best results

  • Mild post-treatment soreness: Temporary inflammation is a normal and important part of the healing process
